Heartbreak and Comeback: Nazizi's Return to Music After Tragic Loss, and Tallia Oyando’s Heartfelt Tribute to Her Soul Sister

Talia Oyando and Nazizi Hirji

Nazizi Hirji, Kenya’s beloved hip-hop and reggae icon, is back in the spotlight after a heart-wrenching personal tragedy—the loss of her son. And if anyone could lift her spirits and share her journey back to the stage, it's her lifelong friend and fellow entertainer, Tallia Oyando.

Known for her fire on Citizen TV’s 'One Love' reggae show, Tallia has taken to social media to honor Nazizi’s strength and their decades-long friendship, a bond that has endured through thick and thin.

Tallia’s Touching Tribute: “Nazizi Was My Protector”

Tallia Oyando recently shared an emotional Instagram post, revealing the incredible role Nazizi has played in her life and career. And in a surprising twist, Tallia dropped a bombshell—Nazizi is the one who gave her the name "Ital Tallia." That’s right; the reggae queen herself was christened by none other than Kenya’s hip-hop powerhouse, Nazizi Hirji.

I love you, @nazizihirji!” Tallia wrote, recalling their journey from high school friends to music industry icons. She reminisced about their school days and the electric moments they shared performing together. “You were a few years ahead of me and always had my back. No one messed with Naz!” she laughed, adding, “alikuwa nare wueh!

Their connection runs deeper than showbiz, with Tallia recounting how Nazizi’s late brother, Firoz, often ensured her safe journey home. “He was my BFF and always watched out for me, especially with those ‘crazy stalkers’ around,” she remembered fondly.

Back to the Stage: Nazizi’s Heartfelt Comeback

In her post, Tallia also praised Nazizi for her bravery in returning to the stage after such a painful loss. “Seeing you back on stage warmed my heart,” she said, expressing her admiration for her friend’s resilience.

Nazizi’s influence on Kenyan music cannot be overstated. Born on March 30, 1981, Nazizi Hirji has been a trailblazer since the '90s, rising to fame after winning the ‘Da Show’ talent contest. In 2000, she co-founded the legendary group Necessary Noize, alongside Kevin Wyre and Bamzigi, giving Kenya timeless anthems like "Kenyan Gal, Kenyan Boy," "Bless My Room," and "Let’s Get Down." Her presence on stage is nothing short of electric, and her return marks a powerful reminder of the healing strength music can provide.

The Legend of Ital Tallia and Natty Naz

This friendship is iconic not just for its longevity but for its impact on Kenyan pop culture. Nazizi and Tallia have inspired a generation, blending hip-hop, reggae, and African rhythms to create sounds that resonate far beyond Kenya’s borders. And it’s a friendship that’s clearly still going strong—Tallia’s post ended with a promise to always be there for her "Natty Naz."

As Tallia put it, “I’ll forever be here for you, dada. Love you to the moon and back.

And with that, two queens of Kenyan music have shown us all that sometimes, friendship is the greatest hit of all.
